Hank Zona of The Grapes Unwrapped and Krug Catering at Orange Lawn are happy and excited to bring a wine industry star to South Orange for a special wine dinner and conversation on September 14.
Andre Mack is a winemaker and designer under the Mouton Noir label. A former sommelier at Per Se, Macwas the first African American to be named Best Young Sommelier in the United States when he was with The Palm in San Antonio. He has been featured in numerous articles and programs in wine, business and lifestyle publications. In addition, Mack has been on tv and has been featured by national advertisers like Microsoft, National Car Rental, and Breitling Watches to name a few.
His story goes well beyond wine as he travels constantly to not just
promote his product but to talk about what motivates him and drives him to succeed. Black Enterprise recognized this in him when he was chosen for their Top 100 last year. It’s no wonder he is often sought after to speak at a range of universities.
Andre makes his wine in Oregon but lives in Brooklyn. If you followed him on social media, you’d not only be aware of his unrelenting pace but of his love for his wife and kids and for his neighborhood and his communities, real and virtual. The wine is very good too. Andre spent some time in the SOMA community a few years back as an artist and winemaker participating in “The Intersection of Art and Wine,” a show that Hank Zona, Rick Hauser of The Framing Mill, and Micha Hamilton of the then GAS Gallery put on.
After a reception, there will be a four course wine pairing dinner with stories and insights from Andre wrapped around it all. This is sure to be a popular event.
